Fantastic Paris Hotel

After much research on this site and others I booked the Hotel Splendid Etoile and it turned out to be a perfect place for our anniversary trip. The location is just amazing. We had a room on the fifth floor (#508) that had not one, but two balconies that overlooked a charming Paris street and had direct views of the Arc de Triomphe and the top half of the Eiffel Tower. To stand out there at night and see the lights while the city rushes by below was just an amazing experience. The service was fantastic. The concerierge, Farooq, was excellent and very knowledgeable about restuarants, transportation and tickets. The hotel was immaculately clean and our room was serviced by the maid twice a day. The bed was comfortable (this room also had a second couch that transistioned into a twin bed in the second sitting room which we didn’t need but would be nice for a family). The bathroom was very clean and the water pressure was great. It had a European shower head that could be used in the tub or put on the wall mount that adjusted for your height. The windows were french style doors that were double sets- you actually had to open both sets to get out on the balcony. This design blocks the street noise when the windows are shut. The location just can not be beat. There are restuarants and shopping all around and the metro stop is literally right out the front door (there is an eleveator at street level that takes you directly down to the Charles DeGalle Etoile stop that is a major hub for many metro lines). We could also walk in the under Arc tunnel and be on the Champs Elysees in minutes. Another major bonus was having the Air France bus stop just across the street. (Farooq sold us tickets and we walked out and caught the bus in 10 minutes.) We booked the hotel through Travelocity and got a great deal (which was about $30 less per night than their website or any other site). Overall we were extremely happy with the choice and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.
