We stayed at the Splendid Etoile for our friend’s 50th birthday celebrations on 11th March. I chose it based on the reviews here and I can assure you that you can believe all the positive comments you read about it. We booked direct and paid 250 euros a room. They are traditionally furnished and well appointed, but to be honest, we hardly spent any time in them, so good was the weather. Room 307 has a perfect view of the Arc de Triomphe; it was a delight to see our friend’s face when she saw it! Farooq was charming and very efficient and, yes, he did walk us round the corner to a brasserie he recommended. Use the Air France bus for CDG- at 20 euros return it can’t be bettered for price and convenience. Didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel - too many cafes around such as the Beer Station where we could sit outside in gloriously sunny weather. We ate well for a very reasonable price at L’amazonial restaurant near Chatelet metro and had a fabulous night out at the Moulin Rouge -it’s not cheap, but it’s a knockout show you really shouldn’t miss. Farooq will book it for you, but as someone else pointed out, he does charge a fee, which wasn’t made clear at the time. I would certainly stay there again.
