Great hotel, fab location

I just got back from a 4 night stay with a friend at the Splendid and it was just that, Splendid! The room was very large (which was a good thing—we had many shopping bags taking up space) and the bathroom sparkling, updated and also quite big. The ceiling was high with great detail, and we had floor to ceiling windows—fabulous!

The location is also terrific. The cab stand (with bench) is steps away. A block down are terrific restaurants and an incredible pastry shop. Two blocks away we found—what else ?—great shopping. The area has a very residential feel which is a huge plus as well—relatively quiet at night.

The hotel staff met all of our requests with a smile and helped with our various dinner reservations. They handled what could have been a difficult situation—an area wide gas ( and hot water )outage with a sense of humor and frequent updates.

Hint—We booked through the hotel web site—I always do this now, as I feel you get a better room. It is probably a few extra dollars, but after a few bad experiences I truly feel this is the way to go.
